Dengue Fever Cases in Indonesia Surge, Exceeding 7% of Global Total
Jakarta – Indonesia is facing a meaningful rise in dengue fever cases, with 131,393 reported as of October 30, 2025, according to data from the Ministry of Health’s Early Alert and Response System (SKDR). This represents 7.3 percent of all reported dengue cases worldwide. The outbreak has also resulted in 544 deaths, contributing to 17.1 percent of global dengue-related fatalities.
The escalating numbers are raising serious concerns among health officials. “This is quite large and very concerning,” stated Murti Utami, Acting Director General of Disease control at the Ministry of Health, during a discussion forum on November 5, 2025. Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection, poses a particular threat to densely populated areas and requires a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to combat it’s spread.
Analysis of provincial data reveals West Java as the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for the highest number of both cases and deaths. East Java, bali, DKI Jakarta, and Central Java follow as the provinces with the most reported infections. Regarding fatalities, West Java is also the leading province, followed by East Java, Central Java, Riau, and DKI Jakarta.
Utami emphasized that addressing dengue fever extends beyond healthcare, requiring improvements in environmental cleanliness and strengthened collaboration between communities and local governments in promoting preventative measures. The Ministry of Health is working to implement strategies focused on both treatment and prevention to curb the ongoing surge in cases.
