Tom cruise “Dying of Embarrassment” Over Demi moore’s Pregnancy During ‘A Few Good Men’ Rehearsals, Actress Reveals
NEW YORK – Demi Moore revealed that co-star Tom Cruise appeared deeply uncomfortable with her visibly pregnant state during rehearsals for the 1992 film A Few Good Men. Speaking at a New Yorker Festival Q&A hosted by The New Yorker‘s Jia Tolentino, Moore detailed the pressures she faced balancing motherhood and a Hollywood career, and how her pregnancy challenged industry norms.
Moore was eight months pregnant while rehearsing for her role as Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway. “I think Tom was dying of embarrassment,” Moore confessed, adding, “The truth is that I felt fine although the baby was moving a little, but I realized that he felt a little uncomfortable.”
The revelation comes amidst a broader discussion of the aesthetic pressures placed on actresses, particularly surrounding postpartum bodies. Moore recounted feeling compelled to aggressively pursue physical fitness even before giving birth, driven by the demands of portraying a military officer. in a striking anecdote, she revealed her activity level on the day her water broke: a two and a half hour walk, a 38 kilometer bike ride, and dancing at a reggae club. “That’s why she was born two and a half weeks early,” she stated.
Moore also reflected on a time when she felt forced to choose between her career and motherhood, questioning why both couldn’t coexist. “Its one of the many things that didn’t make any sense,” she said. “But now,looking back on that time,I think: ‘What the hell was I thinking?’ I don’t know what he was trying to prove but I have to admit that at that time I didn’t have as much support as I do today.”
