Delaware County Deputy Killed Responding to I-69 Accident

Delaware County Deputy Killed by Semi-Truck on I-69

Gaston, IN – A Delaware⁢ County Sheriff’s ⁣Office corporal was struck ⁢and killed early Wednesday morning ⁣while assisting a stranded semi-truck on I-69 near Gaston. Corporal Blake Reynolds, 34, was hit by a northbound semi-truck around 3:30 AM while positioned outside of ‌his patrol⁤ SUV.

Reynolds was providing assistance to a disabled semi-truck partially blocking the northbound ‍lanes of I-69 when the collision occurred. According to Sergeant Scott Keegan of the Delaware‍ County Sheriff’s Office, Reynolds’ emergency lights were⁤ activated at the time. “Its a danger that always ⁤comes with our job,” Keegan said, “being out on the interstate… tragedies happen, and that’s the ⁣case that we ⁣have today.”

The Indiana State ⁢Police (ISP) are leading the investigation.The driver of the striking semi, hauling for Prairie Farms, was transported to ⁣IU Health Methodist Hospital. ISP is working ⁢with Prairie Farms to review potential dashboard camera footage.

Corporal Reynolds joined the ⁤delaware County Sheriff’s ⁤Office in 2022, following service ⁢in the Army National Guard. He is survived‌ by his⁣ wife.

The‍ Indiana State Police are currently assisting ​the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office with emergency calls while the investigation continues.
