Deer Attacks Man Protecting Children in Hungary, Video Captures Shocking Incident
Mezőfalva, Hungary – A harrowing attack by a deer left a Hungarian municipal deputy and volunteer fireman seriously injured Tuesday morning in Mezőfalva, an incident captured on a vehicle’s dashcam. Bálint Pethes intervened to protect schoolchildren at a bus stop when the animal turned aggressive.
The deer initially wandered through local gardens before approaching the bus stop, according to a report by portal 444.hu. Pethes immediately moved to shield the children. However, the deer charged, goring pethes with its antlers and lifting him into the air, as shown in the video.
“The deer took him to antlers and caused him serious injuries. The rescuers took him to a hospital where his condition was stabilized,” the portal reported.
Pethes recounted his experience on Facebook, stating, “I survived the attack just as I didn’t turn my back.I was ready and I grabbed the deer for an antler.”
Two bystanders rushed to assist, attempting to pull Pethes free and drive the deer away. When the animal refused to retreat, hunters were called to the scene and ultimately shot and killed it for public safety.
The incident follows a similar, fatal encounter in Slovakia at the end of August, where a 50-year-old man was fatally injured while attempting to free a deer caught in a fence in Dolni Strehova. Authorities warn that wild animals can react unpredictably, even when approached with the intent to help.
