Decathlon Opens First Buenos Aires Store at Abasto Shopping
Decathlon Opens First Store in Buenos Aires at Abasto Shopping
French sporting goods retailer Decathlon opened its first store in the City of Buenos Aires on Saturday, October 17, launching a 2,470-square-meter megastore on the second level of Abasto Shopping with direct access from Agüero Street, iProfesional reported.
The launch follows an exclusive pre-opening event for brand authorities, IRSA executives, invited guests, and operator representatives. Operated locally by Grupo One, the new branch is the company’s third location in Argentina, joining an initial store at the Al Río complex in Vicente López and another branch in Córdoba. Decathlon had a presence in the country at the beginning of the 2000s before withdrawing from the local market, and its return was materialized through Grupo One and businessman Manuel Antelo. The first branch of this new stage opened in November 2025 at the Al Río complex in Vicente López, receiving more than 10,000 people during its first day of operation. Meanwhile, Córdoba became the first city in the interior of the country to feature a brand location, where the branch opened with record sales worldwide and promised “the best price-quality balance in the market”. The Abasto store marks the formal entry of the chain into the commercial market of the capital city, featuring employees dedicated to customer service, sales, logistics, and consulting on different disciplines. Founded in 1976 in Englos, France, Decathlon currently has more than 1,760 stores in different countries and develops products and services linked to various sports disciplines.

Store Catalog Covers 65 Sports Disciplines
The store’s catalog spans equipment, footwear, apparel, and accessories for more than 65 sports disciplines, catering to both beginners and high-performance athletes, including running, football, cycling, swimming, fitness, hiking, camping, padel, and team sports. Primary display categories include mountain and outdoor gear, such as hiking, trekking, and camping elements; fitness and training equipment, including bodybuilding, CrossFit, yoga, gymnastics, and functional training; and water sports gear, including apparel and accessories for swimming, diving, and aquatic sports.
We want to continue bringing sports closer and closer to more people, with a proposal that combines variety, specialization, and an experience designed for all levels. This store allows us to be closer to a great community of athletes and share sports with them from day one,
stated Francisco Tedin, COO of Decathlon Argentina.

Opening Events Include Gift Cards and Sports Challenges
To mark the opening, Decathlon and Abasto Shopping hosted an inaugural event featuring sports challenges, live classes, and music. The first 200 visitors received gift cards ranging from 40,000 to 200,000 pesos, valid exclusively for use on opening day. An interactive sports station in the shopping center’s Plaza del Zorzal operated between October 3 and October 18, allowing the public to practice different disciplines and participate in challenges for purchase orders. Abasto Shopping noted that the addition of Decathlon expands the commercial offering of the center and adds a proposal linked to sports and experiences.
