‘Full House’ Star Dave Coulier Announces Second Cancer Diagnosis Months After Remission
New York, NY – Actor Dave Coulier, best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on the sitcom Full house, has revealed he has been diagnosed with early-stage tongue cancer, just months after announcing his remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The diagnosis, unrelated to his previous cancer, was discovered during a routine PET scan.
Coulier, 60, publicly shared the news on the Today show, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups. He was initially diagnosed with stage 3 non-hodgkin lymphoma last November and declared cancer-free earlier this year following treatment.”To go through chemotherapy and feel that relief of whoa, it’s gone, and then to get a test that says, well, now you’ve got another kind of cancer … it is indeed a shock to the system,” Coulier said.
The new diagnosis is P16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue.Doctors confirmed the cancer is unrelated to the lymphoma he previously battled. Despite the emotional toll on him and his family, Coulier expressed optimism, noting the prognosis is “very good” with a “90-plus curability rate.”
“It has really saved my life, Craig, is that early detection saved my life, not just the first time but the second time as well,” he stated. “So I hope your getting your checkups. I hope you’re getting colonoscopies and breast exams and prostate exams; they will save your life.”
Coulier highlighted the unexpected benefit of his initial cancer diagnosis, explaining that it prompted the follow-up PET scan that ultimately led to the discovery of the tongue cancer.”Had I not gone in and listened to my doctors and made sure that I got that PET scan to follow up, we would have never found this carcinoma… and I could be in a world of hurt,” he said.
The actor acknowledged the emotional strain on his wife, Melissa, adding, “It’s psychologically draining. It’s also a big drain to my wife, Melissa, which is the biggest drain on me, seeing how this affects her.” He remains hopeful about his recovery, stating he is “going to get on the other side of this.”
