Daria Pikulik

Daria Pikulik Retains Olympic Medal After 18-Month Ban

October 20, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Olympic silver medalist Daria Pikulik has received an 18-month whereabouts ban from the International Testing Agency but will retain her medal from the Paris Games,velo.outsideonline.com reported on October 19, 2026.

Polish Cyclist Serves Suspension for Missed Tests

The 29-year-old Polish road and track cyclist served her suspension retroactively from December 9, 2024, through June 8, 2026. Because the International Testing Agency administers the independent anti-doping program for the International Cycling Union, the sanction fell under Article 2.4 of the governing body’s anti-doping rules. This rule dictates that three missed tests, filing failures, or a combination of both within a 12-month period constitute an anti-doping rule violation. All competitive results, medals, ranking points, and prizes obtained during the active sanction window are disqualified. That disqualification window covers events contested through the 2025 season and early 2026, including a third-place finish at the 2025 Vuelta CV Feminas while racing for Human Powered Health.

However, the sanction leaves her performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games entirely untouched. Pikulik secured her silver medal in the women’s omnium in August 2024, finishing behind American gold medalist Jennifer Valente and ahead of New Zealand bronze medalist Ally Wollaston. Because that result occurred nearly four months before the December 2024 start date of the suspension, it remains safely on her palmarès.

Timeline of the Whereabouts Failures

The penalty stems from three separate failures to meet location reporting requirements necessary for out-of-competition testing. Pikulik experienced her first two missed tests in September and October 2023. Pikulik attempted to keep her whereabouts information up to date in the system thereafter, but an increased workload and an oversight led to a third failure in September 2024.

Pikulik has not competed since March 2026. She stated that the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled against her that month without determining an immediate sanction, and the 18-month suspension was ultimately finalized in September 2026. Rather than contesting the final ruling at a full hearing, she accepted the consequences proposed by the International Testing Agency.

Pikulik Apologizes for Anti-Doping Rule Violation

In a translated statement published on Instagram, Pikulik addressed her absence from the sport and the administrative breakdown.

“It was never my intention to violate anti-doping rules,” she wrote. “I apologize to everyone I have let down, and I thank everyone who stood by me during this time.”

She emphasized that she had completed dozens of doping controls throughout her career without issue. Having completed her period of ineligibility in June 2026, Pikulik faces the task of returning to professional competition following a lengthy absence from the Women’s WorldTour peloton.
