Vancouver erupted in song saturday as thousands flocked to Trout Lake for a surprise, free concert by R&B artist Daniel Caesar. The unannounced performance drew an enormous crowd, with attendees travelling from as far as an hour away to witness the pop-up show.
The unexpected concert highlighted the enduring appeal of live music and Caesar’s dedicated fanbase. While the large turnout led to visibility challenges for some, the atmosphere remained overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating a collective desire for shared experiences in a post-pandemic landscape. Vancouver police were present to monitor the event and prepare for crowd control following the performance.
Umbrellas dotted the landscape as intermittent light rain fell during the concert. Despite the weather, and the difficulty in securing a clear view, fans remained excited.
“Despite the disappointment, they stood together laughing and joking. Roberts said he just wished they had gotten there sooner,” said concert-goer Andre Roberts, who travelled with friends for the show.
the sheer number of attendees prompted creative solutions for visibility, with some individuals climbing trees to catch a glimpse of the stage, according to CBC reporter Tessa Vikander.
