A large pallet fire drew dozens of Dallas Fire-Rescue units too South Dallas on Tuesday afternoon,sending a plume of orange smoke visible for miles. The fire, located in the 5300 block of Botham Jean Boulevard, originated near Hiland Dairy‘s Dallas facility.
Firefighters arrived at approximately 2:04 p.m. and found numerous pallets ablaze. According to Jason Evans, a spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue, the fire was resolute to have started accidentally when a spark from an incinerator used to destroy old pallets ignited nearby stacks.
Witness Anderson Fisher of South Dallas reported seeing smoke rising from a pallet stack shortly after 2 p.m., quickly followed by flames “spreading everywhere.” fisher observed employees of the business attempting to extinguish the fire while neighbors contacted the fire department. “it was absolutely crazy,” Fisher said. “Never seen anything like it.”
Crews contained the fire using ground lines and drones for aerial assessment.Dozens of emergency vehicles, including Dallas fire-Rescue trucks and Dallas police patrol cars, temporarily blocked access to the road at its intersection with C.F. Hawn Freeway.By 4 p.m., the fire was largely extinguished, with crews remaining on scene to address hot spots.
No structural damage occurred, and no injuries were reported. The incident highlights the fire risk associated with pallet storage and disposal, especially near industrial facilities.
