Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Seek Order to Bar My Chemical Romance
Pro Silver Star, the parent company of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in a Dallas County, Texas, district court on Friday, seeking to bar the rock band My Chemical Romance from using costumes that resemble the squad’s iconic uniforms during live performances, NBC News reported.
Costume Dispute Arises From Hollywood Bowl Performance
The legal filing follows a performance on Wednesday at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where the band’s dancers wore outfits appearing nearly identical to the cheerleading team’s white and blue uniforms. NBC News reported that the performers carried what appeared to be rifles and engaged in a staged firefight before being depicted as shot. The band is currently on tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of its third studio album, “The Black Parade.”
According to the court document cited by TODAY.com, the opening night performance on Oct. 21 featured a line of female dancers performing a routine during the song “Teenagers.” The filing noted that the counterfeit uniforms reflected signature elements of the official attire, including white boots and white vests adorned with blue stars.
Pro Silver Star Requests Alternative Costumes for Performers
Pro Silver Star argued in the court filing that audience members and online commentators mistook the stage performers for the actual cheerleading squad. The company stated that it takes no issue with the band’s music, artistic ambitions, or messaging, asking only that performers do not wear the official uniform while executing the routine.

“The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited,” Pro Silver Star wrote in the filing, according to NBC News. Representatives for both My Chemical Romance and Pro Silver Star did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The band is scheduled to perform at the Hollywood Bowl again on Saturday evening, as well as twice over the upcoming Halloween weekend.
