Dacia Unveils New Electric Car, Expected to Priced Around 435,000 CZK

June 18, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Dacia unveils its first electric vehicle, the Spring, with a starting price of 435,000 CZK—nearly double the cost of its cheapest internal combustion engine model. The compact SUV, revealed today, marks Renault’s budget brand’s entry into the electric market, positioning it against competitors like the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6. According to Renault Group, the Spring will be built in Slovakia and delivered to Czech customers by the end of 2024, with pre-orders opening in the coming weeks.

Dacia’s Spring is based on the CMF-EV platform shared with Renault’s own electric models, including the Twingo E-Tech and Mégane E-Tech. The vehicle’s 60 kWh battery promises a range of up to 400 kilometers under the WLTP cycle, according to Renault’s technical specifications. The brand has emphasized affordability, with the Spring’s top-of-the-line version priced at 520,000 CZK—still significantly lower than most European electric SUVs.

Why is Dacia entering the electric market now?

Dacia’s electric push aligns with the European Union’s push to phase out new internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035. The Czech Republic, a key market for the brand, has also accelerated subsidies for electric vehicles, with up to 100,000 CZK in government incentives available for buyers. “The Spring is not just an electric vehicle—it’s a statement on how affordable electrification can be,” said Laurent Vanbecke, Dacia’s CEO, in a statement to Automobile Pro. The brand’s decision follows Renault’s broader electrification strategy, which includes investing €5 billion in electric vehicle production by 2025.

How does the Spring compare to competitors?

The Spring’s starting price of 435,000 CZK positions it as the cheapest electric SUV in the Czech market, undercutting rivals like the Tesla Model Y (from 550,000 CZK) and the MG4 Electric (from 480,000 CZK). However, its range and performance lag behind more established models. The Tesla Model Y, for example, offers up to 540 kilometers on a single charge, while the Spring’s 400-kilometer range is closer to the Hyundai Kona Electric (380 km). Industry analysts, including those at Automobilwoche, note that Dacia’s entry could pressure competitors to adjust pricing or features, though its smaller size and lower power output may limit its appeal to families.

What happens next for Dacia’s electric lineup?

Dacia has confirmed plans to expand its electric lineup beyond the Spring, with a second model expected in 2026. The brand’s parent company, Renault, has also hinted at potential collaborations with other automakers to share electric platforms, though no formal agreements have been announced. In the Czech Republic, dealers report a surge in interest in electric vehicles, with some showing the Spring’s specifications to potential buyers even before its official launch. The brand’s marketing campaign, which includes a “Zero Emissions, Zero Compromises” slogan, aims to counter perceptions of electric vehicles as expensive or impractical.

Renault Group has not disclosed production volumes for the Spring, but industry estimates suggest initial output will be limited to around 20,000 units annually. The vehicle’s assembly will take place at Dacia’s plant in Kolíňany, Slovakia, where the brand already produces its Duster and Sandero models. The Spring’s launch comes as Dacia seeks to reclaim market share in Central Europe, where it has faced competition from Chinese brands like Chery and Geely.

No official response has been issued from Tesla or Kia regarding Dacia’s entry, though industry observers suggest the move could intensify price wars in the compact SUV segment. The Czech Ministry of Industry has welcomed the Spring’s arrival, citing it as an example of how European automakers are adapting to the transition to electric mobility.
