The City of Boise has launched the Curb It Awards, a new program designed to recognize local businesses demonstrating a commitment to sustainable waste management practices. The initiative, announced Monday, aims to encourage waste reduction and promote a cleaner environment throughout the city, according to a press release shared by Gabriel Brenner, Commercial Programs Coordinator for Curb It.
The Curb It Awards will recognize businesses that go “above and beyond” in reducing waste, recycling effectively, and supporting a greener Boise, the city stated. Businesses can participate by applying for the award or by being nominated by members of the community. The application process requires businesses to provide basic information and select from a list of established best practices, or to share their own sustainability initiatives.
According to the City of Boise’s website, the award levels are determined by the number of points earned based on implemented practices. Businesses must have a recycling bin – either a blue cart or a green dumpster – to be eligible. Curb It staff offers on-site assistance to aid businesses identify opportunities to improve their waste diversion efforts and achieve higher recognition levels.
The 2025 award recipients, announced by the city, were categorized as “Champions” and “Pioneers.” Champions included Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, Boise State University, Charlie’s Produce, Common Ground Coffee and Market, Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel, Grace Jordan Elementary School, Lincoln Early Childhood Center, Lost Grove Brewing, Micron Technology, Inc., Pierce Park Elementary School, Rediscovered Books, St. Luke’s Health System, and Whitney Elementary.
