CARSON, Calif. – The California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) women’s basketball team suffered a 68-61 defeat against Cal State Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) on Saturday at the Torodome, despite a second-half rally.
The loss drops the Coyotes to a 12-15 overall record and 10-12 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. CSUDH controlled the first half, building a 37-24 lead at halftime, fueled by a 23-point second quarter. The Toros capitalized on free throws and second-chance points, while limiting CSUSB to just four field goals during that period.
CSUSB demonstrated resilience after the break, outscoring CSUDH 22-14 in the third quarter. They managed to reduce a 16-point deficit to just five points heading into the final quarter. Princess Cassell led this charge, finishing with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, achieving a double-double. She was 7-for-10 at the free-throw line and scored crucial baskets during the third-quarter surge.
Jaushlynn Ruffin contributed nine points and nine rebounds, providing energy on the glass and in transition. Citlali Salazar added eight points and six rebounds, while Hunter Simon contributed six points and six boards. Sincere Hardwick was efficient off the bench, scoring six points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting, and Rebecca Saidoff knocked down two key three-pointers during the third-quarter comeback.
Despite finishing with 40 points in the paint and 18 quick-break points, CSUSB shot 33.8 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc. CSUDH converted 21 of 31 free throws, a factor that proved decisive in the seven-point contest.
