CSKA Sofia appears poised to seek a new head coach, with Hristo Yanev emerging as the leading candidate to replace Dusan Kerkez should the club decide to part ways with the current manager.
The potential change comes amid speculation regarding Kerkez’s future, following recent performance and internal discussions. Should Kerkez be dismissed, Yanev’s established rapport with key figures within the club, stemming from their time together at Botev Vratsa, positions him favorably. He was instrumental in Yanev’s return to Botev Vratsa last fall.
Prior to Yanev, Lyuboslav Penev was considered a possible replacement during the recent international break, but club management ultimately opted to give Kerkez another prospect to improve results. However, the situation remains fluid, and a coaching change is anticipated in the coming weeks.
Yanev has previously managed CSKA Sofia on two occasions. He recently experienced a public disagreement with fans of Botev BP following a 0-2 defeat against Beroe in Stara Zagora.
