Crystal Harris Urges Jessica Biel to Reconsider Role in Playboy Film
Crystal Harris, who was married to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner until his death in 2017, has publicly requested that actor Jessica Biel reconsider her involvement in the upcoming film Playmates. Harris, citing her own experiences within the Playboy Mansion, expressed concern that the project might romanticize a history she describes as defined by abuse.
Public Appeal Against Potential Romanticization
Following the announcement of the film’s casting, Harris took to Instagram to address Biel directly. She urged the actor to step back from the project if the film’s narrative trajectory intends to romanticize the Playboy world. Harris wrote, “I was actually his wife, and I experienced sexual, emotional, financial and physical abuse in that relationship.” She further noted that many other women have come forward with allegations of coercion, drugging, rape, and exploitation connected to the brand, as well as concerns regarding the presence of minors at the mansion.
Harris’s public stance aligns with the narrative she detailed in her 2024 memoir, Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself, in which she characterized the environment at the mansion as “toxic.” Her current appeal functions as a critique of how Hollywood portrays historical figures associated with systemic controversy, particularly when that portrayal risks sanitizing a legacy of alleged trauma.

Lorraine Nicholson Directs Playmates Film About Playboy Mansion
The film Playmates is being developed by Searchlight Pictures, with Lorraine Nicholson, the daughter of Jack Nicholson, attached to write and direct. Nicholson has previously written for magazines regarding her own childhood experiences at the Playboy Mansion. The film stars Bill Pullman as Hugh Hefner, alongside Lily-Rose Depp and Indiana Elle.
According to the project’s synopsis, the story centers on Elle, a 13-year-old who views the Playboy Mansion as a home, and her friendship with Anna, played by Depp, who is one of several women competing for the title of Playmate of the Month. The narrative arc follows the two characters as they pursue their respective ambitions for a magazine cover and a romantic interest.
