Cowboys Already Have Trade in Place, Jerry Jones Reveals
FRISCO, TX – Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Monday the team has already completed one trade and is possibly pursuing up too two more before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. Jones indicated the acquired player will be an immediate contributor, addressing current team weaknesses.
“Instantly it will have them on the field and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings,” Jones said, according to The Dallas Morning News. He did not disclose the player’s identity.
The Cowboys’ need for defensive reinforcements is acute. Currently 3-4-1, Dallas ranks last in the NFC in both total defense and points allowed heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on “Monday Night football.” This defensive struggle is a primary driver behind the team’s reported aggressive approach to the trade market.
Jones’ comments come after recent radio appearances where he discussed the Cowboys’ strategy leading up to the deadline. Though, the owner’s history of prematurely announcing deals – notably a past situation involving edge rusher Micah Parsons – adds a degree of uncertainty.
The outcome of Jones’ stated intentions will be known within 24 hours.
