FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys and running back Javonte Williams agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension on Saturday, securing the 25-year-old’s future with the team after a breakout 2025 season. Williams signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Cowboys prior to the 2025 season.
The new contract comes after Williams achieved a career-best performance in 2025, rushing for 1,201 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. His contributions helped elevate the Cowboys to the ninth-best rushing offense in the NFL, averaging 125.6 yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry.
Williams expressed his desire to remain in Dallas throughout the 2025 season, stating in December, “I love it here. I love my teammates, I love everybody… You don’t always want to just follow money and things like that. You want to go somewhere where you can succeed and be a part of something that’s special. I experience like it’s very special here.”
Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones publicly affirmed the team’s intention to re-sign Williams in early January, calling him “at the top of our list to go out and sign.” He added, “We want to bring him back. We want to sign him to a multiple year deal.”
With Williams’ contract finalized, the Cowboys are now turning their attention to securing wide receiver George Pickens, whose performance likewise peaked in 2025. Negotiations with Pickens are expected to begin at the NFL Combine, which starts Monday, February 23.
