COVID-19 Vaccine Costs: Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario Updates

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Toronto, ON – As other provinces begin to introduce costs for COVID-19 vaccinations, Ontario will continue to offer the vaccine free of charge to all residents this fall, ensuring accessibility during the upcoming respiratory illness season.

The federal government has ended its funding for COVID-19 vaccines, shifting the financial duty for procurement and vaccination programs to provincial and territorial governments. This has led to changes in vaccine access across canada, with Alberta now charging $100 for vaccine administration, excluding healthcare workers, seniors, and those with underlying health conditions. Quebec will charge between $150 and $180 per dose in pharmacies, with exemptions for those 65 years and over.

Despite these changes elsewhere, Ontario remains committed to its annual COVID-19 vaccination program. “Ontario will continue its annual COVVI-19 vaccination program,” stated EMA Popovic, press secretary for minister of health Sylvia Jones, in an email. “Ensuring that vaccines will be accessible to everyone during the next season of respiratory diseases in the fall.”
