Cormac Farrell horses fail to win despite heavy market support
Bookmakers escaped a major payout when Calm The Jets, the first of four well-backed horses trained by Cormac Farrell on Saturday, finished 11th of 12 runners at Southwell, Racing Post reported.
How the Gamble Unraveled Across British Tracks
Cormac Farrell entered the October 10 fixtures with four runners based in County Kildare without a previous winner in Britain. Market support arrived early across the yard’s quartet. Calm The Jets was backed into an 8-11 favourite from 5-1 for the 4.45 selling handicap at Southwell, while Molly Des Bruyeres moved to 10-11 favourite from 20-1 for the concluding bumper at Chepstow. The Gloves Are Off saw support from 7-1 into 11-10 for the Hexham bumper, and Honouramongthieves shortened from 14-1 to 6-5 for the 1m4f handicap in the final race at Southwell.
Sam Boswell of BetVictor confirmed the firm registered steady interest in the multi-race plunge. Bookmakers faced potential liability on a customer holding a Yankee accumulator across all four selections. That exposure vanished when Calm The Jets started at 5-4, ran wide under Rory Cleary, and trailed 25 lengths behind the winner.
Contrasting Results for Farrell and Associated Owners
The remaining runners secured two placed finishes but failed to land a victory. Molly Des Bruyeres finished second at Chepstow, and The Gloves Are Off took second at Hexham approximately twenty minutes later.
Two of the runners, Calm The Jets and The Gloves Are Off, share ownership with Douglas Taylor. Taylor previously participated in a notable coup at Kilbeggan in 2010 involving D Four Dave, alongside a high-profile market move at Fairyhouse involving Great Attitude. Molly Des Bruyeres is owned by trainer Cormac Farrell, and Honouramongthieves runs under the ownership of B Sheerin.
