[New Tang Dynasty Beijing Time July 11, 2025]Have you ever thought that the Milky Way where the earth is actually wrapped in a hugeSpace Cave“inside? The diameter of this hollow is as high as 2 billion light-years – in such a vast range, galaxies, nebulaes, and planets like us are extremely rare. We seem to live in a “Silent Hill” version of the universe, surrounded by deserted and lively “Celestial Community” is on the other side of the distance.
This breakthrough study was from the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, University of Portsmouth, UK. Team by physicistsAndrii NeronovLeading the team, collaborators also include several European cosmology researchers. They focus on utilizingCosmic microwave backgroundradiation(CMB) “sonic waves” to analyze the large-scale structure and material distribution of the universe.
Team utilizationCMBData analysis technology tracks the “sound wave” of the Big Bang – that is, the weak signals caused by temperature fluctuations. These signals record the “heartbeat” of the universe infancy and contain valuable information about the distribution of matter in the universe. Dr. Neronov and colleagues combined these microwave signals with existing observations of galaxy distribution, and after model retorting, it was inferred that the Milky Way was likely to be in the middle of an unprecedented huge hollow.
For decades, scientists have used different methods to measure the speed of the universe’s expansion (Hubble constant), but always comes up with different results. The team proposed that if the Milky Way happens to be in the center of a low-density cavity, the locally observed universe will expand at a faster rate, resulting in inconsistent with the measurements of distant galaxies. This conclusion challenges the classic view of “equality everywhere” in the universe, brings the possibility of “special observer position”, and allows scientists to rethink the deep laws behind the structure and evolution of the universe.
This discovery also raises a very philosophical and scientific question. That is, according to the “principles of cosmology”, every place should be “ordinary”, but the Milky Way is in the center of the largest hollow – is this just a coincidence, or is it a manifestation of the laws of the universe?
Dr. Neronov himself admitted: “Why is our Milky Way in such a special position? This may be just a chance, or it may also hide deeper secrets of the universe.”
Andrii Neronov Dr. is an influential scientist in the fields of high-energy astrophysics and cosmology, and has been committed to research for a long time.Cosmic microwave backgrounddark matter and large-scale structures of the universe. In this work, the team he led applied cutting-edge signal processing and theoretical analysis methods.Hubble constantSystematic study of observation paradox and special location expansion of the Milky Way.
At present, this discovery requires more accurate observations and independent verification by more teams. Astronomers around the world are closely following the new generation of CMB observation projects and galaxy distribution survey data, hoping to further reveal the truth about the structure of the universe.
