Conference League: Lugano Faces Getafe While FC Thun Struggles
Lugano Carries Super League Momentum Into Getafe Clash
FC Lugano enters Thursday’s Conference League fixture in the Madrid suburbs against Getafe on a stellar domestic run, sitting unbeaten in the Swiss Super League with nine wins and a single draw from ten matches. bluewin.ch reported that Mattia Croci-Torti’s side captured 28 of 30 possible points, marking the second-best start in Super League history behind FC Basel’s flawless 30-point campaign in 2003/04.
European Resilience Against Red Star Belgrade
The Bianconeri carry continental momentum into Spain following a dramatic 3-2 group stage victory over Red Star Belgrade. rts.ch noted that Lugano trailed 2-1 until the 83rd minute before an 18-year-old Honduran forward Dereck Moncada leveled the score and Anto Grgic converted an 89th-minute penalty. Rade Krunic had previously put the Champions League regulars ahead in the 67th minute following early saves from David von Ballmoos against Matej Gashtarov and Vladimir Lucic.

Contasting Fortunes for Thun in Europe
While Lugano thrives, fellow Swiss participant FC Thun faces an uphill battle in the Conference League after opening their campaign with a 1,0 defeat against FC Twente in the Netherlands. 20min.ch reported that Gian-Luca Privitelli’s team played with ten men from the 60th minute before conceding a 65th-minute strike to Algerian midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki. Thun now prepares to host Croatian vice-champion Hajduk Split.
Form Guide Heading Into Thursday Night
The two Swiss clubs experience sharply divergent domestic and European trajectories heading into Thursday’s matches. Lugano faces a Getafe side struggling in 14th place in La Liga with just one win in their last nine outings and a notoriously defensive, rough style under José Bordalás. Conversely, Thun sits ninth in the Super League standings and meets an Hajduk Split squad arriving off a prestige European victory over Ajax Amsterdam.
