Comets “Swan” and “Lemmon” are poised to be visible in the night sky over the coming days, offering a rare celestial viewing opportunity. The comets will traverse constellations including the Great Bear – also known as the Big Dipper – with Comet Lemmon reaching its closest approach to Earth next Tuesday at almost 90 million kilometers.
astronomer Guido Pilz notes that the proximity of both Earth and the Sun makes Comet Lemmon a particularly striking comet, perhaps visible to the naked eye from dark locations. The optimal viewing period is expected to be between October 28th and 31st, when the comet will appear at its brightest. “As both the Earth and the Sun are close,it is indeed a striking comet and is seen from a dark location seen with the naked eye,” says Pilz.
