Colorado Woman Arrested After Customer Dies of Overdose Despite Alleged Narcan Offer
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A Mesa county woman faces manslaughter and drug charges after a 26-year-old man died from an overdose in june, despite allegations she provided naloxone-commonly known as Narcan-along with the fentanyl he purchased. Kayla Foreman, 31, was arrested September 6 and is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
The case highlights the complex legal and ethical questions surrounding harm reduction strategies when illicit drugs are involved, and raises concerns about the efficacy of providing overdose reversal medication alongside the substances that cause overdoses. The incident underscores the ongoing fentanyl crisis in Colorado and nationwide, where accidental overdoses continue to claim lives despite the increasing availability of Narcan. Foreman is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
According to court documents, Allen Acosta died June 8 at a Grand Junction hospital after suffering an overdose. Investigators allege Foreman sold Acosta fentanyl and also offered him Narcan, an opioid antagonist designed to reverse the effects of an overdose.Despite receiving the Narcan,Acosta’s condition deteriorated, and he ultimately succumbed to the overdose.
Police initiated an investigation following Acosta’s death, leading to Foreman’s arrest. Investigators also connected Foreman to the death of 36-year-old Jesse Peck, who died May 29.Peck, a Grand Junction native, left behind his wife and was expecting their third child.
“We are trying to pursue other leads” in Peck’s case, stated Detective Sergeant Joe Peck of the Grand Junction Police Department.
Foreman is charged with manslaughter, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of controlled substances. She has not yet posted bond as of September 7. The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
