The ‌protocol that keeps on giving

Anthropic launched the Model⁢ Context Protocol (MCP) in late 2024. This open-source project connects AI models to external tools and data sources. Essentially, it allows AI chatbots and agents to interact with third-party platforms like a person.

Since then, MCP‍ has ‍become the standard for AI-powered productivity. Many companies, platforms, and⁤ developers are building and deploying⁢ MCP servers ⁤to connect tools and data sources.

Apple started working on‌ MCP support across its operating systems last year, but progress has been slow.

regardless, Anthropic donated MCP to the Linux Foundation’s⁢ Agentic AI foundation late last year. Widespread adoption is expected to ⁣continue.
