Claude AI Now in PowerPoint: Generate Slides & Presentations with AI | Ghacks Technology News

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Anthropic has launched Claude in PowerPoint, an add-in that embeds its artificial intelligence assistant directly within the presentation software. The tool, currently in research preview, is available to subscribers of Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, marking a further expansion of the AI company’s reach into Microsoft’s productivity suite.

The integration, distributed through Microsoft AppSource, allows users to generate new slides, edit existing ones, and construct complete presentation structures using natural language prompts. Anthropic states that Claude will respect the presentation’s existing slide master, layouts, fonts, and color schemes during these processes.

This release builds on Anthropic’s earlier integration with Microsoft Excel, where Claude assists with spreadsheet tasks such as editing pivot tables and modifying charts. With both Excel and PowerPoint now supported, users can potentially move from data analysis to presentation creation within a single AI-powered ecosystem, reducing the need for manual rebuilding of charts and tables, according to Anthropic.

Claude in PowerPoint operates by first analyzing the open presentation’s slide master and formatting rules before generating or editing content. This ensures that any new slides adhere to the established branding and layout constraints of the deck. Users interact with the tool through prompts, describing the desired changes or creations, and Claude executes those actions within the active file.

Anthropic highlights three primary workflows: generating slides from prompts – for example, creating a competitive comparison slide. editing specific slides or elements, such as rewriting bullet points or converting text into diagrams; and creating full deck outlines from high-level descriptions, like an industry assessment. Charts and diagrams created by Claude are native PowerPoint objects, allowing for continued editing of elements like text boxes and layouts after generation.

Users of Claude in PowerPoint can choose between Anthropic’s Sonnet 4.5 and Opus 4.6 models. While Anthropic does not officially prescribe specific use cases for each model within PowerPoint, third-party testing suggests Opus 4.6 may be better suited for complex restructuring, while Sonnet 4.5 is more effective for lighter edits.

Anthropic currently characterizes Claude in PowerPoint as being in beta, advising users to review all AI-generated changes before finalizing presentations. Several limitations are currently in place, including incomplete support for some advanced PowerPoint features, the lack of saved chat history between sessions, and the absence of custom data retention settings and enterprise audit log integration for Team and Enterprise customers.

The company also warns of potential prompt injection risks, where malicious instructions embedded in templates or externally sourced documents could manipulate the model into exposing sensitive information or performing unintended actions. Anthropic advises users to utilize Claude in PowerPoint only with trusted files and avoid untrusted external sources.

The Microsoft 365 connector enabling this integration is available to users on Team and Enterprise plans, according to Anthropic’s support documentation. Microsoft and Anthropic announced an expansion of their partnership in November 2025, making Claude models available in Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Anthropic has not provided a timeline for a broader public rollout of Claude in PowerPoint, stating that feature support, compliance integrations, and security safeguards are expected to evolve before a full production release.
