Città di castello Hospital Receives Major Imaging Technology Upgrades
The Radiology department at Città di Castello Hospital has substantially enhanced its diagnostic capabilities with the recent installation of a new 128-slice CT scanner. Located on the first floor (Entrance B),the €530,000 investment includes advanced software packages for cardiovascular imaging, abdominal studies, lung analysis, neuro perfusion, and 4D body and neuro imaging.
Installation, beginning June 18th, was completed ahead of schedule, allowing the hospital to offer full CT scanning services - including routine and emergency care for both inpatient and external patients – starting Tuesday, September 4th. Importantly, CT services were maintained throughout the upgrade period utilizing a 64-slice scanner in the emergency room.
Further improvements are on the horizon. A new 1.5 tesla MRI machine, equipped with comprehensive cardiology and advanced neurological software, is scheduled to arrive on September 16th. This new unit will replace an older 0.5 Tesla MRI, which has been out of service since 2019. Following installation, testing, and calibration, the 1.5 Tesla MRI is expected to be fully operational by mid-October, representing a €1 million investment funded by the Marian Lega.
Looking ahead, the hospital will undertake a further MRI upgrade, funded through Italy’s PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) – Mission 6. Work to replace the currently used 1.5 Tesla MRI will begin by the end of October 2025,with the new system anticipated to be operational by March 2026. This final phase of modernization represents another €1 million investment.
These comprehensive upgrades demonstrate a commitment to strengthening the Città di Castello Hospital as a leading regional centre for advanced medical imaging, aligning with the strategic goals of the Umbria Region.
