Cinema Audio Society Opens Submissions for 63rd Annual CAS Awards

Submissions for the 63rd Annual Cinema Audio Society Awards officially opened on October 27, 2026, launching the timeline for a ceremony scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2027, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The organization set the final deadline for online entries at 5 p.m. PT on Monday, December 7, 2026.

CAS Adds Two New Sound Mixing Categories

The upcoming ceremony will recognize outstanding achievements in sound mixing across nine distinct categories. Two new additions join the slate this year: Non-Theatrical Animated and Short Form projects. CAS President Peter Kurland explained the expansion in a statement, stating that the society previously received many exceptional submissions that lacked a fitting category, making it possible to finally recognize work on short form and non-theatrical animated projects.

Following the December entry deadline, the awards schedule moves to online nomination ballot voting starting Tuesday, December 22, 2026, and closing at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday, January 6, 2027. The society will announce final nominees on Tuesday, January 12, 2027, with a deadline for nominee listing errors and omissions set for Friday, January 22, 2027. Final online voting begins Thursday, February 4, 2027, and concludes at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, February 18, 2027, ahead of the March ceremony.

Phillip W. Palmer Receives Career Achievement Award

Alongside the competitive sound mixing categories, the 63rd CAS Awards will present special honors. Emmy Award-winning production sound mixer Phillip W. Palmer CAS, whose credits include Glee and Better Call Saul, will receive the 2027 Career Achievement Award. The recipient of the CAS Filmmaker Award remains to be announced.

Student applicants face an earlier deadline, with entry applications for the Student Recognition Award due online by 5 p.m. PT on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Final nominees for that category will appear on the society website on Tuesday, December 15, 2026, with the winner announced live at the March 6 event.
