Cigarette ⁢Discarded in Flowerpot Sparks Fire at Billings ​Four-Plex

BILLINGS, MT ⁢- A fire ripped thru a four-plex‍ home in Billings early Friday morning, causing significant damage after​ a cigarette was ⁢improperly discarded in a ⁤flowerpot. The billings⁢ Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after ‍midnight on the 500 block of howard Avenue.

The incident underscores ​the ‍ongoing dangers of smoking materials and the potential for preventable fires,‌ notably in multi-unit dwellings. While⁣ no injuries were⁣ reported, the fire displaced residents and caused extensive damage, highlighting the importance of responsible smoking practices and ‍fire safety awareness.

According to a department‍ release, the fire originated on a second-floor⁤ outside deck. Two suites⁢ on the second ​floor sustained significant fire damage. Crews working to ⁤extinguish the blaze also reported water damage to two apartments on the ⁣lower ‌level.

As⁤ of Friday morning, the Billings Fire Department has not reported any injuries related to the incident. The cause of the fire has⁤ been officially persistent to be a discarded‍ cigarette in a flowerpot.
