Commercial International Bank (CIB) has been recognized as ‘Bank of the Year 2025’ for Egypt by The Banker magazine. The award acknowledges CIB’s important strides in expanding its factoring services and bolstering sustainable lending initiatives targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Rapid Growth of factoring Subsidiary
CIB’s wholly-owned factoring subsidiary, Commercial International Finance Company (CIFC), launched in early 2024 and has quickly established a strong presence. By the end of June 2025, CIFC’s portfolio exceeded EGP 4 billion (approximately $84.4 million USD). Outstanding balances within the portfolio reached EGP 2.1 billion, with plans underway to further develop integrated supply chain management solutions.
Sustainable Finance Initiatives for SMEs
In July 2024, CIB launched a dedicated “Sustainable Finance Loan” program specifically designed to support SMEs operating within the textile, plastic, and food and beverage industries. This product was developed in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the frankfurt Business school.The loan aims to facilitate upgrades to fixed assets and investments in renewable energy and resource efficiency measures.
Risk Mitigation Through EBRD Partnership
Further demonstrating its commitment to supporting local businesses,CIB entered into a credit risk guarantee agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in November 2024. This agreement covers 50% of the credit risk associated with a €50 million SME loan portfolio, effectively de-risking lending to this vital sector.
