Chinese EV: A Citroen Rival Emerges?

The Deepal S07, a new vehicle from the Chinese manufacturer Deepal, is drawing attention for its unconventional interior design – specifically, the complete absence of a traditional dashboard. The observation was made by a driver in Ocean Grove, Australia, earlier this week.

Auto Care Ocean Grove, a local automotive service provider, lists Deepal among the makes and models it is equipped to service, indicating the brand’s growing presence in the region. Mycar, another Ocean Grove automotive service center, too includes Deepal on its list of supported brands. This suggests a developing infrastructure for servicing these vehicles locally.

The emergence of Deepal in the Australian market is occurring alongside continued sales of established brands like Citroën, as evidenced by listings on Gumtree Australia. Potential buyers in Ocean Grove and the surrounding Geelong area are currently able to find both new and used Citroën vehicles for sale.

The Deepal S07’s unusual design choice has prompted comparisons to Citroën, though no official connection between the two manufacturers has been stated. The Ocean Grove Voice described the vehicle as “weirdest” it had driven in years, focusing solely on the lack of a dashboard.

Other brands serviced by Auto Care Ocean Grove include Daihatsu, Datsun, Dodge, Great Wall, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz. Mycar also services a broad range of manufacturers, including Cupra, DAEWOO, Daimler, and Ferrari.
