Chilean Consumers have 10 Days to Reverse Online Purchases
santiago, Chile – Chilean consumers have the right to return products purchased online, by telephone, or thru catalogs within 10 days of receipt, no justification needed, according to the National consumer Service (SERNAC). This “right of withdrawal” allows shoppers to simply “regret” a purchase and receive a refund.
The right applies specifically to remote purchases – those not made in person. However, it extends to in-person purchases where the consumer didn’t have direct access to the product beforehand. SERNAC mandates companies provide written confirmation of the contract; failure to do so extends the withdrawal period to 90 days.
This right is distinct from the legal guarantee, which covers product defects or failures. To exercise the right of withdrawal, consumers must return the product with proof of purchase (receipt, bank statement, etc.) and inform the seller of their decision.
Certain items are exempt, including those that cannot be returned due to their nature (installed appliances), perishable goods with short shelf lives, custom-made products, and sealed items for personal hygiene.
Consumers facing difficulties exercising their right of withdrawal can file a complaint with SERNAC via their online portal, by calling 800 700 100, or visiting a SERNAC customer service office.
