SANTIAGO, Chile – The Chilean Football Association (ANFP) is set to name a new interim coach for the national team ahead of their October 10th match against Peru, following an evaluation of Nicolás Córdova’s recent performance. The proclamation comes as the ANFP seeks to build a squad capable of competing in upcoming qualifiers.
According to Felipe Correa, National Selections Manager, the ANFP is finalizing the location for the October 10th match, with Peru as the likely opponent. “We are defining the headquarters in the next few days,” Correa stated.
While Córdova will lead the team in November’s matches against Peru adn Russia, Sebastián Miranda is expected to take the helm for the October fixture, contingent on the Under-20 team’s continued participation in the World Cup. “That game…is most likely to direct Sebastián Miranda,” Correa explained, clarifying, “In November with Peru and Russia, Nicolás directs, since Sebastián will be in the U17 World Cup.”
Correa highlighted the value of recent matches against Brazil and Uruguay, stating, “these parties were necessary to take advantage of them as a competitive instance and important objectives were met.”
Those objectives, Correa detailed, included “first, form a new group that could sign up for next qualifiers. Second, to work the group to compete in the best way and we believe it was achieved. And third, the debuts there were, which are relevant to what is coming.”
