Salem Surges to Second Place in Chief Minister’s Trophy Games
CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu – The fourth day of the Chief Minister’s Trophy Games witnessed a significant shift in the standings as Salem propelled itself into second place, surpassing Coimbatore. Chennai, however, continues to hold a commanding lead bolstered by a breathtaking performance in the gymnastics competitions.
Gymnastics took center stage today, showcasing the amazing athleticism and skill of competitors in both Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG). Chennai athletes proved notably dominant, adding a substantial number of medals to the city’s tally.
Gymnastics Highlights
Competition unfolded across four events: the WAG Floor Exercise and Balance Beam, and the MAG Table Vault and Parallel Bars. Chennai’s success was particularly evident in the WAG Balance Beam (Collage – Women) event, where P Muthamil Selvi secured the gold medal wiht an notable score of 8.75. This victory further cemented Chennai’s position at the top of the leaderboard.
The podium in the WAG Balance Beam event was rounded out by R Poovizhi of Erode, who claimed silver with a score of 7.30, and G Kalaiyarasi from Villupuram, earning bronze with a score of 6.85. The strong showing from athletes across Tamil Nadu highlights the growing strength of the sport in the region.
On the men’s side, A Dinesh Karthik of Coimbatore delivered a standout performance in the MAG Table Vault (College – Men), earning a gold medal with a score of 11.70. Chennai athletes also excelled in this event, with SJ Aakarsh taking silver with 11.40 and E Tharun Raj securing bronze with a score of 10.28.
As the games continue, all eyes will be on whether Chennai can maintain its lead and if Salem can continue its upward trajectory. The Chief Minister’s Trophy games are proving to be a thrilling showcase of athletic talent from across Tamil Nadu.
