CHATTANOOGA DOMINATES FURMAN IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SHOWDOWN
Chattanooga exploded for a decisive victory over Furman Saturday, showcasing a diverse offensive attack and a stifling defensive performance.The Mocs‘ signal caller distributed four touchdown passes to four different receivers in the contest.
The win solidifies Chattanooga’s position in the Southern Conference standings and demonstrates the team’s potential for a strong finish to the season. With several key players delivering standout performances,the Mocs are poised to contend for the conference championship.
Running back Ryan Ingram led a potent rushing attack with 94 yards on 22 carries, spearheading a group that saw three Mocs surpass 60 rushing yards. Justus Durant contributed 65 yards on 16 attempts. Journey Wyche enjoyed a career day, scoring two touchdowns – one rushing and one passing – marking the first multi-score game of his career.
Through the air, Josh Williams had a career-high 115 receiving yards and a touchdown on six catches, highlighted by a 66-yard score. Markell Speedy added three receptions for 70 yards and a 47-yard touchdown. Tight end Landon Strickland recorded his first career catch, a 25-yard touchdown, along with a second reception for 35 total yards.
Defensively, Chattanooga was equally remarkable. Defensive tackle Ky Tayo intercepted a screen pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown, adding a tackle for good measure. Linebacker Zion Rutledge led the team with nine tackles, marking the fourth time he’s led the squad in tackles and the third consecutive game. Defensive ends Marquise Freeman and Orlando Daniels each recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, with Freeman’s coming on sacks.
