OpenAI‘s CEO, Sam Altman, has indicated that GPT-5 is nearing release, potentially in early August, according to recent information. Altman shared his anticipation for the new model, suggesting it will possess capabilities that surpass human understanding. In a podcast appearance, he described an instance were he posed a question to the model and received a “perfect answer” to something he himself did not comprehend, leading to a feeling of being “useless compared to AI.”
The development of GPT-5 aims to integrate OpenAI’s O3 reasoning model with it’s existing GPT language tools. This integration is a step towards OpenAI’s long-term objective of consolidating various artificial intelligence tools into a unified framework to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI). While AGI itself is a more distant goal, the incorporation of O3 is expected to unlock a wide range of new applications for users.
