Chang’an Avenue: Beijing’s Cycling Night Spectacle

Beijing‘s chang’an Avenue Illuminated for Olympic Celebrations

Teh official China News Agency reported on August 7, 2022, that Chang’an Avenue in Beijing was adorned with sparkling lights, creating an “enchanting table of the double Olympic city.”

Stretching 45 kilometers in length and spanning 100 meters in width, Chang’an avenue traverses Beijing from east too west. The thoroughfare passes by the skyscrapers of the Guomao business district before leading to Tiananmen Square. Situated between the Great Hall of the People and the Tiananmen Gate (Gate of Heavenly Peace), the avenue is marked by the iconic portrait of Mao Zedong, which has been displayed as 1951. This central artery divides Beijing’s political core, extending westward towards the industrial suburbs of Shijingshan. For those seeking further exploration, the avenue can be extended an additional 11 kilometers to reach the Jietai Temple, a ancient site established during the Tang Dynasty on Mount Ma’an.
