ČEZ to Lower Energy Prices for 1.6 Million Customers in New Year
Prague, Czech Republic – ČEZ, the Czech Republic’s largest energy supplier, announced today it will reduce electricity and gas prices for approximately 1.6 million customers starting in January. The price of electricity for households without fixed-price contracts will fall to 1,289 crowns per megawatt hour without VAT.
The price adjustments will be applied automatically, requiring no action from customers, according to ČEZ. The company is also introducing a “dynamic tariff” offering potential discounts of up to 50 percent during off-peak hours for customers with continuous metering who can adjust their energy consumption.
“At the same time, we offer customers another option for discounts on non-fixed and fixed products in the form of a so-called dynamic tariff with a lower price in certain hours of the day. if customers have continuous metering and are willing to spread their consumption over time, they can save up to 50 percent of the price of power electricity in certain hours,” said ČEZ Sales Director Tomáš Kadlec.
ČEZ advises customers to maintain current deposit levels until regulated energy prices are finalized by the state. The Energy Regulatory Office recently proposed a one percent increase to the regulated component of energy prices, but cautioned that the final figure remains subject to change.
This move follows similar price reductions from other Czech energy suppliers.Pražská energetika lowered electricity prices by up to ten percent and gas prices by eight percent for over half a million non-fixed-price customers starting in November. E.ON also announced a ten percent reduction in electricity and gas supplies for approximately 800,000 customers with indefinite contracts, compared to standard 2023 prices.
ANO Vice-Chairman Karel Havlíček has proposed transferring payments for renewable energy sources to the state, potentially reducing overall energy costs by up to ten percent.
