Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella visited pohang, South⁤ Korea, on September ‌16, 2024, to inaugurate a new artificial​ intelligence (AI) data center and announce a significant investment in the region’s digital infrastructure. The move underscores Microsoft’s commitment to expanding its global AI footprint and bolstering its partnership with South Korea.

The $200 million investment will not​ onyl‍ establish a state-of-the-art data center in Pohang, operated in partnership with SK Telecom, but also provide AI and cloud services to South Korean businesses and public sector organizations.This expansion is critical as ⁣demand for AI capabilities surges,‍ and South Korea aims to become a leading‍ AI‌ technology hub. The Pohang ‍facility is designed to support the growing need ⁤for scalable and ⁤secure cloud ‌computing resources, enabling advancements ⁣in areas like machine⁣ learning, data analytics, and digital change.

Nadella’s visit included meetings with local government officials and industry leaders,emphasizing the collaborative nature of ⁣the ⁣project. “Our ‌partnership with South Korea is vital to delivering AI⁢ responsibly and empowering every ⁤person and every organization to achieve more,” Nadella ​stated during a press conference. The data ‌center‍ is expected to create numerous high-skilled jobs in the Pohang region and contribute to the⁣ local economy.

The new facility will leverage Microsoft azure’s ​advanced technologies and adhere to stringent security and compliance standards. SK Telecom will contribute its expertise in telecommunications infrastructure and 5G connectivity to optimize ⁣the‍ data center’s performance.The Pohang data⁢ center represents the ⁢latest step in Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to build a​ robust and geographically diverse network ⁣of AI-powered cloud services.
