Central Ohio Weather: Rain Today, Warming Up This Week

Columbus, Ohio is experiencing continued precipitation this morning as a low-pressure system moves through the southeastern United States. Light rain showers are expected to persist throughout the morning before tapering off later this afternoon, with high temperatures reaching the upper 40s Fahrenheit.

The National Weather Service forecasts scattered rain showers for Sunday, accompanied by cloudy skies and a high of 47 degrees. Tonight, skies will be mostly to partly cloudy, with a possibility of patchy fog developing. Overnight lows are predicted to dip into the low 30s.

A warming trend is anticipated early next week. Monday will see mostly cloudy skies with a high near 52 degrees. Tuesday’s forecast calls for continued cloud cover and a further increase in temperatures, reaching the mid-50s. By Wednesday and Thursday, highs are expected to climb into the low 60s.

The approaching warm front is likely to bring scattered rain showers on Wednesday. Another low-pressure system is forecast to arrive Thursday evening and continue through Friday, bringing additional precipitation. A return to cooler temperatures is expected on Saturday, with highs falling back into the low 40s.

The Columbus metropolitan area, encompassing ten counties – Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Hocking, Licking, Madison, Morrow, Perry, Pickaway, and Union – is currently home to an estimated 2,225,377 residents, according to 2024 estimates. This makes it the 32nd most populous metropolitan area in the United States and the second largest in Ohio, trailing only Cincinnati. The area is anchored by the city of Columbus, the state capital and the 14th largest metropolis in the U.S.

Central Ohio’s economy is diverse, featuring recognizable global brands, innovative small businesses, and research institutions. The region as well includes significant agricultural areas and dedicated natural spaces. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Columbus metropolitan area was $169.1 billion in 2022.

Beyond Columbus, other cities within the metropolitan area include Dublin, Gahanna, Newark, Delaware, Lancaster, Pickerington, London, Marysville, Circleville, Westerville, Marion, Zanesville, Chillicothe, and Athens.
