Alan Carr Eyed as Potential Host for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’
Alan Carr, known for his nearly three decades in comedy and recent appearances on “The Celebrity Traitors,” is being considered as a potential replacement for departing “Strictly Come Dancing” hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, according to a source cited by The Mirror. The BBC is searching for new presenters after both Winkleman and Daly announced thier departures from the long-running program and its spin-offs following over 20 years with the show.
Carr’s name has surfaced amid discussions about prioritizing “familiar faces” to ease the transition for viewers. Former “Strictly” performer Vincent Simone recently suggested the BBC should choose hosts “already well-known and experienced - not newcomers,” specifically mentioning Paddy McGuinness and Noel Edmonds as potential candidates. Carr, despite a public persona often perceived as lighthearted, has demonstrated a strategic and decisive side on “The Celebrity Traitors,” eliminating close friends Paloma Faith and Celia Imrie.
The source described Carr’s on-screen image as deceptive, stating, “His public persona is one of being a bit of a giggle, a bit of a pushover, but that is definitely not the case at all.” Carr began his comedy career after graduating university and spending five years working in a call center while performing on the stand-up circuit, where he gained awards and a substantial following.
“Strictly Come Dancing,” which premiered in 2004, is a British television dance competition where celebrities partner with professional dancers to compete for the coveted Glitterball trophy. The show remains a ratings juggernaut for the BBC, and the selection of its hosts is a key element of its continued success.
