Registered nurses and licensed medical professionals at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in California are scheduled to start a five-day strike on Monday, February 16, according to a news release from Service Employees International Union Local 121RN.
The work stoppage will involve members of SEIU Local 121RN, a union representing over 11,000 registered nurses and healthcare professionals across California. Negotiations between the union and hospital management have been ongoing since July 2025, with caregivers voicing concerns over what they describe as unsafe staffing levels, inadequate environmental conditions, and instances of workplace harassment. The union similarly alleges that Providence has proposed alterations to healthcare benefits and retirement contributions, alongside reductions in support staff and expanded job duties.
Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center is a joint venture between Renton, Washington-based Providence and Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai. The hospital released a statement expressing disappointment with the union’s decision to strike, stating that it had engaged in good-faith bargaining for the past seven months with the aim of reaching a “competitive agreement that supports caregivers and their families while remaining sustainable.”
The hospital added that it respects the legal right of its employees to strike but believes such action will “only delay constructive contract talks.” Providence stated it is prepared to maintain operations throughout the strike, having contracted with an agency to provide qualified nurses and other professionals to ensure continued patient care.
According to the SEIU 121RN website, this is an unfair labor practice strike. The union’s announcement, published February 13, 2026, details the planned five-day walkout.
