Bullfighter Faces Charges After Madrid Arrest
Cayetano Rivera is reportedly focusing on family as his lawyer investigates the circumstances.
After his recent arrest in Madrid, bullfighter Cayetano Rivera is taking time to be with his son while his legal team reviews the incident and considers possible irregularities in the arrest.
Lawyer Speaks Out
Joaquín Moeckel, **Rivera’s** lawyer, spoke about the bullfighter’s state of mind, noting that “He is a little discouraged and, if you allow me the expression, bewildered.”
According to **Moeckel**, **Rivera** is upset, explaining, “He is sad, because he is a person who has never had problems either with the police, or with justice, or with anyone.
The lawyer added that his client, is a very quiet, very educated person, and anyone who knows him knows that he is very leisurely, restrained. All these events have taken him out of context. He has seen herself badly and sadly.”
Notably, in 2023, roughly 8.3 million people attended bullfighting events in Spain, demonstrating the sport’s enduring, if controversial, popularity (Statista).
Details of the Arrest
**Rivera** was apprehended in the early morning hours of June 30th at a hamburger restaurant in central Madrid, allegedly for resistance and disobedience to authority. He was held for several hours before being released with charges.
Current Status
Currently, **Cayetano Rivera** is in Mallorca, spending time with his son, the result of his marriage to **Eva González**. According to his lawyer, “He is veraneanding with his son, he has removed a little in the middle to rest,”
adding, “He is now focused on his son and his vacation. He will be with him until he decides to return to his professional commitments.”
Future Plans
One of **Rivera’s** scheduled appearances is on July 26th at the Santiago Fair in Santander. His legal team, however, is currently focused on clarifying what happened on the night of their arrest
.
Legal Perspective
**Moeckel** stated, “We are collecting what happened and the possibility of an anomaly in his arrest is being studied.”
He also noted that, This type of thing, with the law in hand, are usually administrative, non -criminal sanctions. The arrest of a person is a ultimate thing and it has to be a very serious issue; that is, a person has to be committing a flagrant crime or something of this type.”
Impact of Detention
According to **Moeckel**, the detention itself was the most difficult aspect for **Rivera**: “A humiliation,”
says the lawyer. “I am accustomed to seeing dungeons, courts, police and judges, because it is my profession. But for someone like **Cayetano**, who has never lived something like that, See handcuff, stripped of their belongings, without laces, without belt and locked in a dungeon … is something deeply traumatic.”
The lawyer clarified, It must occur in terms and very specific circumstances. A simple resistance of speaking or identification, in my opinion, with the Law of Citizen Security in the hand, is not conducive to a detention of these characteristics, because this is very traumatic.
For this reason, **Moeckel** says they will try to clarify the facts.
