by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor December 7, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Key Takeaways from teh Article: china’s Economic Outlook ‍for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030)

This article, featuring insights from economists Zhao Wei⁢ and Tao ⁢Chuan, outlines the expected economic trajectory for China during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, especially focusing on 2026. Here’s a breakdown⁢ of the key points:

1. Accelerated Policy Implementation:

* The 15th Five-Year Plan will ⁤see a speeding up ⁢of both development ‌and reform initiatives, ⁣building on ‌the⁤ groundwork laid during the 14th Plan.
* over⁣ 300 reform ‍tasks ‌outlined ⁢at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th central Commitee will⁣ continue‌ to be implemented.

2.”Atypical Recovery” in ‍2026 (Zhao Wei):

* China is expected⁢ to experience ⁣an “atypical ⁤recovery” in 2026, differing ⁤from traditional cyclical recoveries.
* Moderate volume growth will be accompanied by significant price recovery, driving profit betterment and economic vitality.
*⁤ This recovery ‍will be fueled by:
* ‌ Dividends from⁤ accelerated reform‌ and development.

‍ * Lagged effects of policies launched after September 2024, specifically those focused on boosting domestic demand and ‌ reducing “rat race” competition.

* Structural differentiation will be ‍a key ⁤characteristic, with varying recovery rates across industries and companies.

3. Three Key Areas of Focus for the 15th Five-Year Plan (Tao Chuan):

* Industry: Leveraging the “AI +” Action Plan to develop vertical large models and scenario-based applications, shifting ‍from old ‍to new⁣ growth drivers. ‍ Emphasis on translating technological advancements into practical industrial applications.
* Technology: Building on existing strengths‍ in Chinese technology companies, focusing on industrial empowerment – ⁤applying technology to drive industrial growth.
* People’s Livelihoods & Consumption: ⁤ A shift ⁣in investment focus from ‌tangible assets to people, ‌prioritizing areas like⁤ elderly care,⁢ childcare, and education to strengthen the social ⁢security system ⁣and improve quality of life.

In essence, the article paints a picture of a‍ China focused‍ on quality ‌growth, driven by technological innovation, internal demand, and improved social welfare, rather than solely relying on large-scale investment and export-led⁣ expansion. The recovery in ⁣2026 is expected to be more nuanced and profit-driven than a traditional boom.

Goa Nightclub⁢ Fire Claims 23 Lives

Panjim, Goa – A fire ripped through the⁢ Birch nightclub in Goa early Tuesday morning, leaving 23 people dead and raising fresh concerns about fire safety standards in the popular tourist destination. Police, rescuers, and paramedics responded too the scene, where⁣ smoke billowed from a narrow stone ⁢staircase at the establishment’s entrance, as onlookers gathered.

The tragedy underscores a recurring problem in India, where aging infrastructure and lax enforcement of safety regulations contribute ⁣to frequent ⁢and frequently enough deadly‌ fires. Goa, a ⁣former portuguese colony and renowned seaside ⁣resort attracting over ten million tourists annually – including nearly ⁣470,000 foreigners in 2024 – relies heavily on its tourism industry, and this incident threatens to impact visitor confidence. Investigations ‌are ⁣underway to determine the cause of the blaze and whether safety protocols were violated.

The incident follows a ⁣pattern of recent deadly fires across India. In May, a fire in a Hyderabad building claimed 17 lives, while in April, 15 ‌people died attempting ‍to escape a hotel ‌fire ⁣in Calcutta. These events highlight systemic vulnerabilities in building safety ‍and emergency ‍response capabilities.

The World with AFP reported the incident.

Ukraine Commander Rejects Peace Deal Requiring Territory Surrender

Ukraine⁤ Rejects Territorial concessions in Peace Talks, Top Commander warns

KYIV, Ukraine – Ukraine will not cede any territory in a potential peace agreement with Russia, the country’s top military commander, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated in an interview with ‍Sky News on December 5. He accused Moscow of using⁢ diplomatic discussions‌ as ⁢a pretext to continue its military offensive and seize more⁣ Ukrainian land.

“Naturally, for us it is unacceptable to simply give ⁢up territory. What does it even mean – to hand over our land? This is precisely why we are fighting; so we do not give up our ⁣territory,” Syrskyi said, speaking from an undisclosed location in eastern Ukraine via a translator. He asserted that a “just⁣ peace” could only be achieved through a ceasefire along the⁣ current front line, followed by negotiations.

Syrskyi revealed the intensity of the fighting, stating that Russian ‍forces⁣ are ‌launching between 4,000-5,000 one-way attack drones and 1,500-2,000 ⁢bomb-dropping drones daily. He confirmed Ukrainian forces are now matching, ‌and in some areas surpassing, ‍those numbers, notably with First-Person View (FPV) drones. “At the moment, we are ⁢deploying slightly more FPV drones than the Russians,” he noted.

The commander further alleged that Russia is actively pursuing offensives despite publicly signaling a willingness to negotiate. “The enemy continues⁢ its offensive, using these peace talks as cover,” Syrskyi⁤ said. “There are no pauses, no delays in their operations. They ⁣keep pushing‌ their troops forward to seize as much of our ⁣territory as possible under the cover of negotiations.”

Heavy fighting is currently concentrated around Pokrovsk, Kupiansk, Lyman, and⁣ Huliaipole, according to Syrskyi. He estimates Russia has deployed over 710,000 troops‌ and is suffering daily⁣ losses of “around 1,000 to 1,100 soldiers a day, killed or wounded ‘and a majority are killed’.” Ukrainian forces are currently ⁣holding positions in the northern part of Pokrovsk.

Syrskyi emphasized the critical importance of‍ continued international military aid, expressing hope for sustained U.S.support while also looking to European partners to step up if necessary. He warned that without Ukraine’s defense, “others will be ‌forced to‍ fight in Europe.”

Ukraine intends to continue targeting Russian logistics, industrial centers, and oil infrastructure‌ with long-range‌ drones to disrupt Moscow’s war capabilities. Despite facing exhaustion, Syrskyi ⁣affirmed the unwavering commitment of Ukrainian troops, stating, ⁤”We are just ⁢forced to wage this war… protecting our⁣ peopel, our cities and towns, and our land.” He highlighted the consequences‍ of Russian occupation, describing it as leaving behind “only ruins, only deaths.”

Chancellor Merz in Israel: Germany Should Stand for Justice

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor December 7, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Merz Urges ⁢Israel to Uphold Justice amid Ongoing Palestinian Repression

jerusalem – During a visit to Israel, German CDU leader Friedrich Merz emphasized the necessity of justice ⁤and accountability regarding alleged human rights violations against Palestinians, even as a fragile ceasefire holds in Gaza. The call for action comes amid mounting international scrutiny of Israeli policies in ‌both ‌gaza and the west Bank.

Merz’s visit follows months ‌of intense conflict and escalating ⁢concerns over the treatment of Palestinians. Human Rights Watch (HRW) reports detail widespread allegations of⁤ crimes against humanity and potential acts ‍of genocide committed ⁤by Israeli authorities in Gaza. These include the killing, starvation, and forcible displacement of tens of thousands of civilians, alongside the⁤ devastation of civilian ⁤infrastructure such as hospitals, shelters, aid worker locations, and journalist facilities.

HRW specifically cites an April 2024 strike that killed 106 civilians‍ as a potential war ‍crime, and details how starvation has been used as a weapon of war in⁢ Gaza since December 2023.A November 2024 HRW report accuses Israel of “forced displacement” of Palestinians in Gaza, characterizing the situation as ⁣”hopeless, starving, and⁣ besieged.”

Beyond Gaza, HRW documents a surge ⁤in abuses in the West Bank, including forced displacement, excessive force, administrative detention, torture, ⁤the expansion ⁤of illegal settlements, and state-backed settler violence. These actions,HRW asserts, constitute crimes against humanity and form part of an ongoing system of apartheid and persecution,as detailed in a 2021 report.

Human Rights ⁣Watch has called for sanctions against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin netanyahu, and for him to be investigated and prosecuted for alleged crimes.

In light of these concerns, Merz’s message underscores a growing⁤ call for stronger international pressure on Israel. HRW advocates for Germany, and the EU more broadly, to end “business as usual” with Netanyahu and individuals sought by the International Criminal‍ Court (ICC) on charges of atrocities. Specific recommendations include halting weapons exports to Israel, imposing ⁢targeted sanctions against Israeli officials implicated in⁤ abuses, suspending preferential trade agreements, banning trade with⁣ illegal settlements, and committing to executing ⁣ICC arrest warrants.

-title Rupee Expected to Breach Rs280 Mark by End of Month

by Priya Shah – Business Editor December 7, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Rupee Nears Rs280 Against Dollar Amidst Export Concerns and Saudi Support

Karachi – The Pakistani rupee is poised to breach the Rs280 mark against the US dollar, though a dealer in the interbank market anticipates any dip will be temporary. The currency has steadily appreciated during the current fiscal year, falling from Rs284.27 on july 31 to Rs280.42 on the last trading day of the outgoing week.

The potential for the rupee to fall below 280 has raised concerns, with Faisal Mamsa, CEO of Tresmark, warning it “could destabilise export-based industries,” suggesting a mild depreciation would be a more suitable path.

Recent support came from Saudi Arabia‘s rollover of a $3 billion loan, which experts believe will bolster the rupee’s position. However, Pakistan’s exports continue to decline, falling 15.4% in November, contributing to a $37.2 billion trade deficit for the first five months of the fiscal year.

Despite pressure from exporters for devaluation to improve competitiveness, experts caution against the strategy, citing past episodes that failed to substantially increase exports. One dealer noted the US dollar has already lost approximately 12% against major international currencies, with the rupee helping to maintain relative dollar stability locally.

The rupee experienced a sharp devaluation, dropping from 180 to 300 against the dollar in two years, but this did not result in a substantial export boom or structural economic advancement, according to Mr. Mamsa. He also pointed out that the IMF has de-emphasized Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER) as a primary exchange rate indicator as 2018, yet exporters continue to lobby for devaluation.
