Greenville, Fayetteville Convention Centers Extend Offer to Host Events as Raleigh Center Recovers
Fayetteville, NC & Greenville, NC – December 5, 2025 – Following a fire at the Raleigh Convention Center on Monday night, managers of the Greenville Convention Center and Crowne Center in Fayetteville have proactively offered their facilities to accommodate events previously scheduled for the Raleigh venue. As of today, neither center has received direct requests from event organizers seeking alternative locations, but both have indicated a willingness to assist.
The offer comes as Raleigh officials assess the extent of damage to the convention center’s roof and begin planning for repairs. The Raleigh Convention Center, described by Mayor Janet Cowell as an “meaningful civic asset,” was fortunately unoccupied at the time of the fire. The disruption, however, raises concerns about future events and the economic impact on the city. City engineers initiated a structural assessment of the roof on Tuesday to determine a timeline for safe reopening.
Mayor Cowell stated that temporary roofing will be installed to mitigate further water damage, but cautioned that a return to “normal basis” of operation will require time. “This is getting a little more complex, there are a lot of moving parts,” she acknowledged.
The city has not yet released a specific timeframe for repairs or reopening. Cowell expressed her desire to expedite the process, stating, “I will be interested to know how fast we can get this up and running.” The extent of the damage is visible in drone footage captured after the fire.
Matt Reeves Defends Paul Dano Following Criticism From Quentin Tarantino
LOS ANGELES – Director Matt Reeves publicly defended actor Paul Dano on Thursday, responding to recent comments made by Quentin Tarantino that disparaged Dano’s performance in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood.Reeves, who directed Dano as The Riddler in the 2022 blockbuster The Batman, praised Dano as both an ”incredible actor” and “an incredible person” in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The exchange highlights a clash in critical opinion regarding Dano, a consistently sought-after performer who has worked with some of Hollywood’s most acclaimed directors. Tarantino’s remarks, made during an appearance on The Bret easton Ellis Podcast, have ignited debate among film enthusiasts and raised questions about the subjective nature of acting assessment, notably as Reeves prepares to begin production on The Batman Part II.
Tarantino described Dano’s role in There Will Be Blood, opposite Daniel Day-Lewis, as a “big giant flaw” that prevented the film from reaching its full potential. “And the flaw is Paul Dano,” he stated.”Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, and it’s also so drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. … He is weak sauce, man. He’s a weak sister.” He further clarified that he found Dano’s performance to be a “non-entity,” also expressing his dislike for actors Owen Wilson and matthew Lillard.
Despite Tarantino’s criticism, Dano has earned accolades throughout his career, collaborating with directors including Steven Spielberg and Denis Villeneuve. Reeves’ public support comes as he prepares to shoot The Batman Part II, with Scarlett Johansson recently entering final negotiations to join the cast in an undisclosed role.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A federal appeals court has temporarily halted a lower court order requiring the Trump administration to withdraw National Guard troops from Washington, D.C.,pending further review. The stay, issued Thursday by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, pauses the withdrawal deadline as the court considers the administration’s appeal.
The legal battle centers on the deployment of at least 2,000 National Guard reservists to the nation’s capital, framed by the Trump administration as an initiative to combat crime and enhance the city’s appearance. District Judge Jia Cobb previously ruled on November 20 that the administration had overstepped its authority by deploying the guard for non-military, crime-deterrence purposes without a request from D.C.’s local authorities, initially setting a withdrawal deadline of December 11,later extended by 21 days.
The appeals court emphasized that its decision to stay the order “should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits” of the case. The administration has faced similar legal challenges regarding National Guard deployments in other Democrat-led cities, including Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago. The court’s decision arrives days after a shooting on November 27 left one National Guard member, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, dead and another, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, critically injured.Following the incident, the Trump administration announced plans to deploy an additional 500 National Guard members to the city. Authorities have charged 29-year-old afghan Rahmanullah Lakanwal in connection with the shooting.
