María catalina Usme Pineda, Colombia’s all-time leading scorer with 62 goals, has received surprising news regarding her club career while participating in the Copa América with the national team.
Usme, a prominent figure from Antioquia, had recently been playing in Türkiye with Galatasaray. During her tenure with the club, she competed in the Champions League Femenina, scoring two goals, including one that secured qualification for the second round of the international competition. At 34 years old, Usme had fulfilled a dream of playing in European football. However,after one season,Galatasaray announced they would not be continuing with her,expressing gratitude for her efforts adn wishing her future success.
This progress comes as Usme is actively involved with the Colombian National Team in the Copa América, currently being held in Ecuador. This tournament is a crucial qualifier, offering two direct spots to the 2028 Olympic Games and five additional berths to the Pan American Games in Peru in 2027. Usme, who missed Colombia’s debut match against Venezuela due to discomfort in her right thigh, made her return in the second half of the game against Paraguay, contributing to a 4-1 victory.
Usme’s international club experience also includes a stint in the Mexican League with Pachuca, where she played in 2023, prior to her move to Galatasaray in 2024. The Colombian national team is currently preparing for their upcoming match against Bolivia, scheduled for Tuesday at 4:00 PM, marking their third fixture in the Copa América.
