Castilla y León Launches Annual Flu Vaccination Campaign Amidst Ongoing Public Health Concerns
Influenza remains a significant public health challenge due to its potential for direct and indirect mortality, and also associated economic and social disruptions. Vaccination is widely recognized as the most effective preventive measure, particularly for individuals at higher risk of severe illness.
In alignment with national vaccination schedules and lifelong immunization programs, the community of castilla y León has initiated its yearly influenza vaccination campaign. The primary objective is to decrease both the incidence and fatality rates associated with the flu and to lessen its regional impact.
This campaign prioritizes the protection of individuals most susceptible to severe complications from infection, as well as those who could potentially transmit the virus to vulnerable populations, adhering to official recommendations and the regional vaccination calendar.
For the current season, Castilla y León has procured a total of 725,650 doses of inactivated influenza vaccines. These vaccines are produced using viruses cultivated in embryonic eggs and contain either fractionated viruses or surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase), or thier equivalents.
Of the total doses, 200,000 are designated for children aged 6 to 23 months and individuals aged 5 to 59 years who fall within designated risk groups. An additional 475,000 doses are allocated for the general population aged 60 and above. A separate allocation of 50,000 vaccines is reserved for institutionalized or dependent individuals over 60 who are not residing in institutions. Furthermore,650 specialized doses have been prepared for individuals with documented allergies to vaccine components.
