Carrie, Abbott Elementary and Chicago shows premiere; Apple TV series end
Mike Flanagan’s eight-part series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie thrusts its bullied title character, played by Summer H. Howell, into a modern high-stakes environment defined by toxic meme sites and active-shooter lockdown drills.
Television Project Expands Scope of Source Material
Conceived as a trilogy, the television project expands the scope of King’s source material well beyond the confines of the classic shower scene. Samantha Sloyan co-stars as Margaret White, the militantly pious mother attempting to control her psychically superpowered daughter as the narrative builds toward a prom-pocalypse climax.
Schedule Shifts across Network and Streaming Slates
As the fall television season moves forward, major series across broadcast, cable, and streaming are shifting rosters and opening new narrative chapters. On ABC, Abbott Elementary kicks off Season 6 with Gregory, played by Tyler James Williams, stepping into his promotion as Assistant Principal alongside Ava, played by Janelle James. Janine, portrayed by Quinta Brunson, sparks conversation with an ultimate classroom makeover, while Melissa, played by Lisa Ann Walter, adjusts to a new second-grade teacher sharing her former space.
Dick Wolf’s Chicago block returns to NBC with fresh complications across medical, fire, and police divisions. Chicago Med opens its 12th season with Gaffney administrator Sharon Goodwin, played by S. Epatha Merkerson, fighting to retain her job amid emergency department fallout from wedding gunfire, while Dr. Hannah Asher, played by Jessy Schram, weighs her return from maternity leave. Chicago Fire initiates Season 15 with a time jump revealing the survivors of a cliffhanger fire, introducing new probies to Firehouse 51, and marking the departure of ex-battalion chief Dom Pascal, played by Dermot Mulroney. Chicago P.D. closes the evening with its Season 14 premiere, featuring Jason Beghe’s Voight bringing an outsider into the Intelligence unit following a parole officer’s shooting, and Arienne Mandi’s Officer Eva Amani confronting a turning point regarding her long-missing sister.
Finales and Valedictions on Streaming Platforms
Streaming services are closing out notable runs with emotional conclusions. On Apple TV, the Australian thriller Last Seen wraps its run as an anguished Ian, played by Patrick Brammall, tracks the man who abducted his daughter 11 years prior. Raised as Sarah by Chloe Jean Lourdes, the young woman finds herself caught between conflicting loyalties when her guardian Henry, played by Brendan Cowell, seeks refuge inside his father’s cult compound. Apple TV also closes out the fourth season of Ted Lasso, which follows the AFC Richmond women’s team celebrating a promotion while mourning Mae, their ardent fan and pub proprietor played by Annette Badland.
