Carragher Claim: Nottingham Forest Star ‘Better’ Than Liverpool’s Szoboszlai

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has publicly stated his belief that Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White is as capable, if not more so, than Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash between the two sides.

Carragher’s assessment comes despite Szoboszlai being widely considered Liverpool’s standout player this season, having scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions. The Hungarian midfielder has become a key figure for Arne Slot, even filling multiple roles throughout the campaign. He has likewise emerged as the team’s set-piece specialist following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The former Liverpool defender first voiced his opinion on Gibbs-White last year during an appearance on The Overlap US: It’s Called Soccer podcast. “I’ve been watching Morgan Gibbs-White now for probably 18 months in the Premier League and I’m convinced he can play for one of the top teams,” Carragher said. “I look at him in that number 10 position, he’s got goals, he’s got energy, he’s quick, he gets on the ball and I think that lad has got a lot going for him and obviously he’s going to secure a move.”

Carragher continued, “I think he’s as decent as Szoboszlai, if not better, in that number 10 position. I think he’s brilliant.”

While Szoboszlai has 10 goals and seven assists this season, Gibbs-White has recorded eight goals and five assists overall. However, Gibbs-White holds the edge in Premier League goalscoring, with six goals compared to Szoboszlai’s four.
