Veteran Actress Carmen Maura Reveals First-Ever Nude Scene at Age 80
Buenos Aires, Argentina – Spanish film icon Carmen Maura surprised audiences on teh Argentine talk show La noche de Mirtha this week, revealing she recently filmed her first nude scene after a decades-long career. Maura, 80, explained she agreed to the scene because of the quality of the script and the artistic approach to the filming.
“They have asked me because, curiously, in all the years I have been in movies, they have never told me to undress,” Maura stated on the program, adding that her perspective had shifted with age. “If you had asked me four or five years ago I would have said no, but now that I’m 80, it doesn’t matter to me.”
Maura emphasized her satisfaction with how the scene was handled. “They have done it very well, with a very beautiful light. But I fall in love and it truly seems that it was necessary,” she said. “When you’re older, you get past everything. I have nothing to gain or anything. I’m on a different roll.”
The conversation also touched on maura’s long and fruitful collaboration with director Pedro Almodóvar, reaching its peak with Women on the Verge of a Nervous breakdown (1988). While acknowledging a past rift, Maura stated she and Almodóvar are no longer actively working together.
“I don’t treat him much now. We have been very friends and we have done very nice jobs. He helped me a lot and I helped him. And then each of us has other paths. Come on! We don’t feel like working together anymore,” she explained. “We did grate things and it has been fantastic, but then we got older, we changed and that’s it.”
Despite the distance, Maura expressed continued support for Almodóvar’s work, saying, “there are so many actresses who would love to work with Almodóvar, actresses from all over the world, look… Go ahead!” She confirmed she still attends screenings of his films and fondly remembers their early collaborations as “the best school” she could have asked for, noting the resourcefulness required during those initial projects. “Working without means wakes you up. And we had nothing at all.”
