Cardi B Faces Civil Trial Over Alleged Assault of Security Guard
A civil trial is underway in Georgia concerning allegations that rapper Cardi B assaulted and defamed a security guard, emani Ellis, following a 2021 incident. Ellis is seeking significant damages, claiming both physical and emotional distress resulting from the alleged attack.The case centers on accusations that Cardi B ordered her security team to attack ellis, and personally spat on her, during an altercation outside a nightclub in Atlanta.
The lawsuit, filed in August 2022, seeks medical expenses, lost wages (past and future), punitive damages, and a civil penalty of $25,000. The outcome of the trial could significantly impact Cardi B’s public image and financial standing, while Ellis hopes to recieve compensation for the alleged harm she endured. Cardi B is expected to testify today, August 26, as the trial enters it’s second day.
According to court documents and reporting from CourtTV, the incident occurred after Ellis allegedly attempted to photograph Cardi B without her consent. Cardi B, upon entering the courthouse Tuesday, vehemently denied the claims, stating she “never” touched Ellis and asserting that Ellis was the initial aggressor. Ellis testified earlier in the trial, detailing her account of the alleged assault.
Ellis’s complaint alleges assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and false imprisonment. The trial is proceeding as Cardi B concurrently prepares for the release of her upcoming album, Am I The Drama?, scheduled for September 19.
